Watching for the Signs....

It's harder than I thought...to watch for the signs of Jayla getting tired. Wow...but this is my project today. Instead of keeping her up to play and try and get her to settle when it's too late, I'm watching for the signs of her getting sleepy, then attempting to put her to bed. So far here's the 'schedule' - and I use that term loosley as I'm sure tomorrow will not be even close to the same as today.

Last night we got her to bed at 9:30pm - she slept till 2:15am.
2:15am - 2:45am - awake (feed/burp/change)
2:45am - 6:05am - sleeping
6:05am - 6:30am - awake (feed/burp)
6:30am - 7:45am - sleeping
7:45am - 9:45am - awake - diaper change, a little feeding from daddy, a walk with daddy and then some nursing from mommy
9:45am - 10:25am - sleeping
10:25am - 11:15am - awake - trying to get her back to sleep, diaper change, feeding etc
11:15am - 1:20pm - sleeping
1:20pm - 2:30pm - awake (diaper change, feed, burp, play more feeding/cuddling)
2:30pm - it's now 4:57pm - and she's still asleep...so I'll update later. Here's the update:
2:30pm - 5:05pm - sleep
5:05pm - 6:05pm awake (diaper change, feed, burp, playing, tummy time)
6:05pm - 6:20pm sleep (I was in the shower, so I'm not certain she was sleeping this whole time)
6:20pm - 7:00pm awake (more feeding, soothing etc)
7:00pm - 8:05pm - sleep
8:05pm - 10:05pm - awake (diaper change, feeding, a walk, a car ride, a bath, bedtime rountine)
10:05pm - 2:10am - sleep....that's it...all that hard work all day, watching her cues and she only sleeps for 4 hours? Man, this parenting stuff is so tiring...seriously.

This works out to over 5 hours of napping today. The books I'm reading (BabyWise & Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child) both say that babies should not have a wakefulness period of more than 2 hours and that it's really important to watch for the signs....So, that's what I'm doing.

Oh and we took Jayla to the trailer this weekend. She loved it. I think she loved the fresh air and the attention - and I think the fact that I had a couple drinks may have helped too...? Who knows...But she slept really well in the afternoon and at night she slept for 6 hours without her white noise machine...We might have to go again - maybe next long weekend.

Martin celebrated his 30th birthday last week and mine is in a couple weeks....We're really getting old...Not that 30 is old, but it's not that young either.

Okay, well, that's all for now. I will update the rest of the days sleep/awake times later, so that I have it documented...
