She's really growing up...
I can't believe how fast Jayla is growing.....She is already 8 months and she's doing so much. Last week she started signing 'milk' - well the sign for milk, but she was using it for all sources of food. Which is fine, it's still language development...and yesterday she started signing 'more'....and this morning, she put them together and did 'more milk'...two signs...she's so smart.
Oh and clapping....she started clapping to patty-cakes yesterday. Grandma does patty cakes with her a lot, and I do too, but I think she wanted to make Grandma proud, because when we went to visit her at work, she did patty-cakes right then and there....I was so impressed. She loves clapping now...she's so proud of herself...as she should be. It's a great feat! Good for her.
We went to the infant development program last week. Martin was off, so he was able to go as well. Michelle, that's who we worked with, was so nice. She did some 'tests' on Jayla, just observing how she plays and stuff...and just marked down her progress on a form. Then after they were done, she totaled it up. The only area that she is a little delayed in is the gross motor area, which is what I already knew. But anyway, Michelle said that she's in around the 10th percentile for 8 month olds (and she had just turned 8 months...). That means that she has more skills then 10% of the 8 month olds. And she has less skills than 90% of the 8 month olds. In the gross motor area that is....They're going to send us some information and ideas for encouraging her to develop in this area. And we're also going to go for a followup appt in February, just to see how she's coming along. It was actually good to hear that she's not that delayed. And I'm okay with her being stationary for a little while longer. I'm sure once she's on the move, she won't be stopping for anything!
She's also getting another tooth in. The top front on the right. The last ones came around Thanksgiving and now 'all she wants for christmas is her two front teeth'....well, not really - haha. But one of them probably will come just in time for Christmas. Jayla does still bite, occaisionally, but certainly not as often as she was biting...ouch!!
She's still doing well with the eating. She's now had sweet potato, squash, carrots, peas, green beans, brocoli, brussel sprouts, apples, peaches, pears, bananas, mango and prunes....And she seems to like it all. I think it's time for us to start making the food a little less pureed for her though, and a little more chunky, just so she gets used to different textures... Oh and I am still nursing, for the most part. I'm actually surprised at how long I've gone. It's a good feeling knowing that I'm giving her that wonderful nourishment....and I just feel like it's our special time together. I feel so close and connected to her. It's really amazing. Plus, that's when she's the most snuggly...I really have nothing against formula, as you know we've been supplementing for quite some time now... It is more expensive though, so that's another plus, we have saved quite a bit of money.
Speaking of money...haha... we had Jayla's Christmas pictures done - at Walmart. We pick them up this Saturday. I really hope that they turned out well - we're spending $85 dollars on them, so they better be good. They looked good on the screen, but you never can tell, until you get the prints. I wanted to get them done at the superstore, but it was all booked up (for a while now)...so we had to resort to Walmart - which was a lot more pricey...oh well.
On another plus, we recieved a huge bag of hand-me-down clothes from our good friends on the weekend. Most of it doesn't fit her yet, but she'll certainly grow into it. We've been so lucky to have all that stuff given to us. We hardly have had to buy any clothes for Jayla. I have, but I really haven't spent that much on her. I think the only thing I bought that was 'new' was 2 little longsleeved onsies at Old Navy a couple weeks ago, everything else was from the second hand shops or the value village....I'm quite frugal, but really I can't justify spending $20 or more on a pair of pants or a sweater for a baby who will probably only wear it a few times before growing out of it.
Christmas is only 5 days away....I think it's going to be fun. I'm sure Jayla will have fun with the wrapping paper....And I know that Grandma and Papa are excited to spend time with her. And of course the aunts and uncles....
Well, I have a few pictures that I took which I'm going to post. I just put a black blanket over the chair in the recroom and it looks like a back drop..I'm quite proud of these pictures. I think she looks so cute!!
