19lbs 3oz....Oh my goodness!
Okay, so Jayla was 5 months old on Wednesday. Yesterday we went to our chiro appointment and I decided to weigh her. She was 19lbs 3oz. I can't believe how fast she's grown. That's more than triple her weight since birth. Incredible. Especially considering babies can't overeat. Jayla hasn't learned about gluttony - like her mother and father...haha.
We have started Jayla on cereal, but for the most part I am still breastfeeding. She also gets about 3-6oz of formula at night as well. Just depends on how much cereal she decides to eat. I don't know if it was the cereal, or just the fact that she's getting older now, but her sleep patterns have improved dramatically. It's been a wonderful 3 weeks now. She's been sleeping anywhere from 8-11 hours at night. There have been about 2 nights out of that 3 weeks where she still got up around 4 or 5am and wanted to eat. But I can handle those rarities. Just as long as they don't become a habit.
We are going to hold off on feeding her any other type of food, till she's 6 months, I think. Well, I guess I should talk to Martin about this, but I think with the addition of the cereal, she's doing pretty well. She certainly isn't starving. I did take a short parent workshop at the early years centre on baby food creations. Basically, we were comparing store bought jarred baby food and homemade baby food. It's very easy to make and you can store it for a couple months in the freezer. I also had bought some of those fancy storage containers (like ice cube trays, but they're all individual and they have lids) from someone in the pennysaver I think. And so, I'm prepared. I also have one of those fancy food grinders. We got it as a shower gift, and I'm sure it'll come in handy.
Oh and another thing...We bought Jayla a Jolly Jumper. We put her in it this morning for the first time. Our friends bought one for their baby and they brought it over last weekend for us to try, and she seemed to enjoy it. So, technically this was her second time in it. But, anyway, she enjoyed it....My chiropractor did say that they're not the best for the babies spines. Basically if they come down with straight legs too many times, they can really mess up their spines. However, he did say that it would be a rare occurrence of using a jolly jumper to the point of causing any damage. Apparently there are parents out there who would put their babies in them and leave them for hours while they do stuff around the house. But 10 minutes a few times a day shouldn't cause any concern. Same with the exersaucer - 10-15 minutes at a time, a couple times a day - no problem.
Jayla's personality has changed so much. She's is a much happier baby. And she is so interactive. I used to think that I wanted her to stay just a little tiny newborn forever, because I just loved having her cuddle up with me and need me so much. And now she's already becoming more independent. She wants to hold herself up, and try and pull herself up. And it seems that she's ready to start sitting on her own too. Now that she responds to us, she's so much fun. It's amazing. Everyday, something new makes me love her even more. Like the way she's been puffing up her cheeks and pressing her lips together to try and mimic me blowing raspberries...It's the cutest thing. You can tell she wants to do it so badly, but it's so hard...I keep encouraging her to try...I know she'll get it soon enough. Jayla is a wonderful baby and I am so happy to have her in our lives. I couldn't imagine it any other way.
Okay, just a quick picture and then that will be it.
